WHY LIVE EDGE

One piece. One of one.

"Live edge" means the board keeps the tree's natural outline — instead of squaring the sides, we follow them, bark and all, so the finished board reads like a cross-section of the tree it was. Ours are each cut from a single piece of Grade A olive trunk, which is why the grain is riotous and the shape is never twice the same: expect your board's outline and size to vary around an inch from the listing, because that's the honest cost of one-piece wood. Two silhouettes cover the range — rectangular, the versatile shape that cuts and serves equally well, and oval, the natural charcuterie stage — with the extra-large boards (up to four feet) turning a dinner party into an event. Want a specific grain or shape? Message us and we'll photograph the current batch so you pick your exact board.

QUESTIONS

Live edge cutting boards, answered

A board where the natural edge of the tree is kept instead of cut square — the flowing outline, the bark, the irregular silhouette are all the tree's own. Each of ours is a single piece of olive trunk, so the board is literally a slice of one specific tree: the working face is smooth, finished wood; the bark rides on the underside so it sits flat.

Rectangular is the do-everything shape: enough straight surface for real cutting, handsome enough to serve from. Oval leans entertainer — it's the natural charcuterie and cheese stage, all presentation curves. Kitchens that host a lot often end up with one of each; if you're choosing one, match it to whether knives or guests will see it more.

It'll look like its tree. Live edge boards vary in outline, grain, and up to about an inch in size from the listed dimensions — single-piece wood doesn't do identical. If the exact look matters, message us before or right after ordering and we'll send photos of the boards in the current batch so you choose the one we ship.

The standard ovals and rectangulars cover everyday serving; the extra-large charcuterie boards run up to four feet long — the board that is the buffet. Those big trunk cuts are genuinely scarce, so if the size or shape you want isn't listed, reach out; we'll show you what's on the rack.

The bark lives on the underside and edges, away from food — the serving face is smooth, sanded, and finished with food-safe mineral oil like every board we make. The bark is well-adhered and part of the board's character; treat it like the rest of the wood (no soaking, no dishwasher) and it stays put for the life of the board.
